The Salvation Army Ashland Kroc Center Breaks Ground on Expansion Project
ASHLAND, OH (Friday, May 8, 2020) – The Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center officially broke ground on a 20,185 square-foot expansion this morning at 527 East Liberty Street in Ashland. The 7.2 million-dollar project is expected to take between 12 to 15 months to complete. Funding comes from an award from the original Joan Kroc gift to The Salvation Army specifically designated for capital expansion projects only. The expansion will include an indoor waterpark, locker rooms, a fitness center offering elliptical trainers, treadmills, circuit training and a space for stretching, Pilates and yoga. Other amenities will include multi-purpose rooms for program activities, educational classes, and party rooms for community rentals.
This groundbreaking brings good news to our community at a time when we all need a jolt of positivity. “This expanded center will allow us to transform more lives and provide greater hope to those in need by offering affordable opportunities for health and wellness initiatives, year-round recreational attractions, educational programming and access to free social services,” – Major Annalise Francis, Administrator.
This project will be spearheaded by Simonson Construction as the general contractor, with many other local subcontractors taking part as well, including BCU Electric. Simonson served as the general contractor on the original construction the Kroc Center in 2009.
“We are extremely excited to get this project underway, especially as we are partnering with local companies like Simonson and BCU, which will help provide an economic stimulus to our economy both right now, and jobs here at the facility when it is finished,” – Brandon Wells, Director of Development.
Updates on construction will be available on our social media platforms @AshlandKroc on Instagram and Twitter as well as our Facebook page (Facebook.com/AshlandKrocCenter) for updates during the construction process. Thank you.
